    Pre-Vocational Services (Facility Based Employment)

ACHIEVA's facility-based programs are available at our Strip District, Wilkinsburg, West Mifflin, Bridgeville and Greensburg locations.  Participants will focus on developing vocational skills in a habilitative environment. Supports will include personal and work adjustment training designed to develop appropriate worker traits and teach an understanding of the work environment, work sampling, paid contract work and support groups that promote peer interaction and social development.

The focus of our pre-vocational services is to provide real work opportunities for individuals while preparing them for future employment in the community. The majority of the work available in a pre-vocational setting is paid on a piece rate and wages are determined by an individual's level of productivity. The majority of this work is done on-site with staff supervision and guidance. Our Strip District and Bridgeville locations also offer enclave opportunities where groups of individuals will travel off-site to perform work for different companies.

In addition to contract work, each of the five sites also offers volunteer opportunities and a Job Club. Individuals who would like to volunteer some of their time will have the option of doing so at various places and organizations in the community. In doing so, they are not only being given an opportunity to give back to the community, but they are also learning and developing some real world work skills. Job Clubs are held on-site and are open to any participant who would like to further learn about the skills necessary to pursue community employment. ACHIEVA's Employment Supports facilitator conducts weekly sessions at each of the sites and helps to identify individuals who are ready to take the next step towards community-based employment.

Most individuals receiving Pre-Vocational Services are supported at a 1:15 staffing ratio, although, sometimes more intensive support is required. Programs operate Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
