Mental Health Advanced Directives and 988 Crisis Hotline

For some people, a mental health crisis can seem like it worsens over time. For others, it feels like it happened in an instant. But it’s important to have a plan in place if you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health condition, and it’s crucial to be aware of the resources that can help get you and your family through the difficult times. During this presentation, representatives from NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania will provide an overview of a Mental Health Advance Directive (MHAD), a recovery tool that helps you communicate your mental health wishes to your treatment provider even in the event you become unable to do so. They will also provide an update on the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline from a legislative aspect and explain how the Lifeline can be a resource before you reach a crisis point.

Presenters:  Jenny Vaporetti, Adult Mental Health Advocate, National Alliance Mental Illness (NAMI) and Nikki Weigand, Director of Advocacy and Public Policy, National Alliance Mental Illness (NAMI)
