The following diversity, equity, and inclusion “definitions, mission, and vision” were adopted by the Achieva Board of Directors on May 10, 2021
Diversity happens when we respect all unique perspectives, so everyone feels represented.
At Achieva, what is different about a person is what makes their perspective vital.
When building a person-centered culture, we view one another as individuals who are greater than the sum of their individual experiences.
Equity happens when we level the playing field so everyone can take advantage of resources and opportunities.
At Achieva, we understand that barriers can exist that prevent many people, and certainly people with disabilities, from having the same opportunities as others. We are committed to recognize and remove these obstacles so the people we serve, our team, and our communities feel they are treated fairly and are free to thrive.
Inclusion happens when we grant and accept inclusion from others, so every person feels safe, respected, connected, and valued for who they are.
At Achieva, we believe that inclusion is more than just representation. We cultivate an evolving culture where we are encouraged to take and make space with our authentic, whole selves resulting in a community where we ALL feel mutually connected to one another.
Achieva aspires to build an inclusive and equitable world for every person we serve from every type of diverse background. In order to facilitate this, we must understand the people we serve by reflecting their diversity and ensure our team and Board feel the Achieva culture is inclusive and equitable. We do this with the recognition that a truly inclusive culture is possible only when we remove obstacles to resources and opportunities for everyone. When people on a diverse team feel included, they feel respected, work better, are more creative, and will contribute toward our common goal.
Achieva works every day to make the world inclusive and equitable for people with disabilities. We will only be truly serving our community when we reflect the community; we must ensure that the makeup of the people we serve is representative of all diverse backgrounds within our communities. With this in mind, we aim to meet the following goals:
Also, as a chapter of The Arc, Achieva supports the diversity vision of The Arc of the United States.
