The Vice President of Advancement will lead and supervise a team that includes a Director of Development and a Director of Communications, each of whom have additional staff. Roles and Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead visionary and strategist for Achieva’s Advancement team, developing relationships and partnerships with other leaders in the community and media to position Achieva as a leader in the region and in the disability community.
- Create an annual advancement plan that supports Achieva’s strategic vision priorities and plan, informed by the collaboration with other executive team members in Achieva (includes grants, events, and other fundraising activities for the year; clarifies roles and duties between advancement staff and program staff; includes a communication plan to increase Achieva visibility and accomplishes its annual programmatic goals). Monitor the implementation of the plan through periodic meetings with internal stakeholders.
- Design and execute an annual fundraising strategy that includes individual giving, planned giving, corporate giving, and special events. Design and implement a planned giving plan to secure bequests, stock gifts, gift annuities, gifts from charitable trusts, insurance policies, etc.
- Analyze the effectiveness of fundraising efforts and provide timely reports that track progress toward annual fundraising goals to the CEO, President of Achieva Resource, Trustees, and Achieva’s Development Committee.
- Supervises the Director of Development and their activities related to major gift solicitation, planned giving solicitation, and corporate solicitation as needed.
- Supervises the Director of Communication and their activities related to Achieva’s communication plan and strategy, key Achieva publications, social media, and marketing materials.
- Identify and research prospective grants and major donors. Monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.
- Coordinates activities of the Capital Campaign, when in a Capital Campaign, including interaction with Capital Campaign Cabinet and Capital Campaign consultants to report on activities, provide analysis of results, and recommend strategies for future development efforts related to the campaigns and other fundraising.
- Maintains awareness of new developments, industry trends, and regulatory changes related to communications, marketing, fundraising, and other advancement activities.
- Complete Advancement department budget planning and monitoring on an ongoing basis for the entire corporate development and communications effort. Drafts the organization's grants budget in collaboration with organization leadership.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Achieva Trustee Leadership Committee and coordinate trustee engagement and recruitment efforts.
- Liaison with the Board of Trustees Development Committee. Work with the Development Director to prepare and present information to the committee.
- Provide support and represent Development and Communications at community events, fundraising events such as the Achieva Golf Outing, the Achieva Auction, and other events held by community groups that raise funds and or awareness for Achieva.
- Serve as a partner, contributor, and leader in furthering the organization’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

Experience and Attributes
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communications, or related field. A graduate degree and Certified Fundraising Executive designation (CFRE) are preferred.
- At least five years of fundraising experience with increasing leadership responsibilities, including proven expertise in securing major and planned gifts.
- Proven ability to cultivate existing donors and initiate new prospects.
- Proficient knowledge of fundraising database software is required.
- Exceptional interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills.
- Evidence of superior research ability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership, supervisory, and organizational management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a team.
- An understanding of and/or personal connection to disability issues or programs, health/human services, and/or non-profit corporations or charitable organizations is preferred.
- Satisfactory Act 33/34 clearances are required.
Compensation and Benefits
Achieva offers a competitive annual salary of $120K to $130K based on experience. Other benefits include:
